As we all know, Vexed created the hybrid bait/jig concept.

We didn’t just innovate this concept, we have constantly expanded it into more sizes from 20g-1000g, added a micro version (or 4) and are constantly testing and adjusting new ways to increase fish capture and longevity.

We have learnt a lot since developing this concept, but most of all that there are 2 distinct species of human that use this product. We call it “Anglers and Fisherman”.

Firstly there is not one Bottom Meat hook configuration to keep everyone happy because different people fish in different ways. 

Anglers and Fishermen? Oh yes I’ll explain, Anglers more often than not use modern light PE1.5-PE4 outfits to get to depth using the least amount of weight as possible and use drag, skill and hope for a little luck to land fish. These guys find it harder to get a good hook set with a thicker gauge hook using a soft slow pitch rod and light PE.

A Fisherman in many cases is a harvester. With no disrespect whatsoever ever, they are often less refined in gear selection which is usually a little on the “Come Here” side of the size spectrum, use the heaviest braid possible, don’t acknowledge a reels drag system and pull accordingly. Some also use full Dendoh power from the rod holder gunwale.

We love these guys, and these guys love Bottom Meats but Bottom Meats with light gauge hooks don’t get along with this guys.

How to keep both parties happy?  Well we created an option to suit both styles.

 The Current Bottom Meat Classic has a heavier gauge BKK jigging hook and 1 hook size bigger than our new Bottom Meat Slow Pitch in the equivalent weights. These are perfect for the Fisherman that wants to fish harder on heavier PE5-PE10 tackle. And yes this includes the 500-1200 dendoh anglers who love using Bottom Meats when sharks are hot to trot. 

 The new Bottom Meat Slow has been designed for anglers using slow pitch outfits and 300-400 dendoh outfits with PE1.5-4. The finer gauge BKK slow pitch pike shape hook is much easier to set with a slow pitch outfit and you will simply hook and land more fish.

 The Bottom Meats Slow has not been designed for smaller or different fish species, they have been designed for a different style of angler who targets the same fish species on more modern lighter slow pitch jigging outfits.
